Malaysia Continues To Act On Reducing Carbon Emissions

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will continue to act on reducing carbon emissions besides being at the forefront in articulating the need for a balance between the environment and development. Science Advisor to the Prime Minister, Zakri Abdul Hamid said the effort to cut carbon emissions, through new policies involving climate change and green technology, was in line with the Science 2 Action (S2A) initiative currently championed by Prime Minister, Najib Razak. "The S2A is the initiative to intensify the application of science and technology for industry development, people's well-being and governance of science, technology and industry that aligns to the New Economic Model introduced in 2010. It aims to reinvigorate science so that it is ready and able to generate the big new ideas and game changing strategies that will create wealth and jobs for the people," Zakri said in a statement, Wednesday. Meanwhile about 700 climate change adaptation scientists, government officials, non-government organisations (NGO) and the private sector from Asia Pacific are attending the fourth Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation forum at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here, Wednesday. The forum ia organised by the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) and hosted by the Office of the Science Advisor to the Prime Minister with technical support from the National University of Malaysia's (UKM) Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-UKM). --BERNAMA
