Malaysian Primary Industries Ministry to Form Palm Oil Ambassadors Club

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- The Primary Industries Ministry of Malaysia will establish a club to engage students to become palm oil ambassadors to create awareness on the industry. Minister Teresa Kok said the initiative will be implemented throughout 2019 in universities and schools. “We are going to campuses and HELP University is the first one where we want to form the ambassadors club to create awareness among the students about the health benefits and other issues related to palm oil,” she said during the Youth Edupalm Forum 2018 here Wednesday. The event was co-organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board and HELP University. She said there was a lack of understanding among the people with regards to issues related to the industry. “We encourage them to organise activities and to write so that we can have more Malaysians to defend our products,” she said. The European Union (EU) will be phasing out the use of palm oil in transport fuels from 2030, setting up fiery clashes from major producers Malaysia and Indonesia. The EU is the second largest importer of Malaysian palm oil after India. For 2017, revenue from palm oil and palm oil-based products exported to the EU stood at US$2.62 billion (RM11 billion, US$1 = RM4.18), of which RM 777.7 million was from the export of 235,291 tonnes of biodiesel. -- BERNAMA
