Masdar CEO stresses commercial viability of renewable energy at World Future Energy Summit

Abu Dhabi, 21, January 2015 (WAM): Dr. Ahmad Belhoul, CEO of Masdar, the Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, has stressed the need to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy as a commercially viable technology to meet the world’s rising demand for electricity. Delivering his keynote speech at the eighth World Future Energy Summit, WFES, a key event as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, he said, "Like any technology, clean energy has optimised its performance and reduced its cost over time, and in various parts of the world, renewable energy is out-competing traditional power." "With surging populations, coupled with finite resources, we must pursue all forms of energy, conventional, unconventional and alternative. This requires that we re-think the relationship between traditional and new forms of power, and that energy must not only coexist, but work in harmony." Dr. Ahmad also addressed the growing momentum in the Middle East to adopt renewable energy. "This region’s appetite for renewable energy has quickly taken shape," said Belhoul, "with Abu Dhabi taking the first steps almost a decade ago. As our neighbours join us in the race to adopt renewable energy, Masdar’s regional and global experience will reinforce efforts to address energy security through the deployment of renewable power." Dr. Belhoul concluded the address by emphasising how the World Future Energy Summit presents an opportunity to share experiences and forge partnerships that will enable the region and the world to diversify the energy mix. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395275367236.html
