Ministry To Work Closely With States, Neighbouring Countries To Protect Environment, Nature - Minister

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will work closely with all state governments and countries in the region to protect the environment and preserve nature. Its Minister Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said many issues related to environment and nature would be reviewed and planned with the cooperation of all the stake holders. Wan Junaidi said his ministry would also enhance relationship with several countries in the region, especially Indonesia, to overcome the haze problem that has continued to pose a threat to the environment. "Our main focus will be to beef up enforcement on open burning, not only in the country but open burning in other countries that can pose a threat to the environment and health," he told reporters at his ministry here after a handing over of duties session, Monday. In a cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Najib Razak on July 28, Wan Junaidi was appointed Natural Resources and Environment Minister, replacing G. Palanivel. -- BERNAMA
