Moderate Earthquake Hits Celebes Sea

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale occurred in Celebes Sea at 9.18 am Wednesday. The Meteorological Department in a statement on Wednesday said, the quake's epicentre was at 4.4 north and 124.8 east, 698km north east of Semporna, east Malaysian state of Sabah and 202km north west of Talaud Island, Indonesia. The quake with a depth of 319km does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said. --BERNAMA
