New Cave Found Near Mulu Caves IN Miri - Chief Minister

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Nov 7 (Bernama) -- A team of explorers have discovered a new beautiful cave near the world renowned Mulu Cave in Miri said the east Malaysian state of Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem Friday. According to Adenan the cave was over six million years old and was discovered recently, but did not mention the team that discovered it. “The discovery of this cave is good for Sarawak and our state’s tourism industry,” said Adenan in his speech at the Sarawak Forestry's 12th anniversary dinner here. Other caves located near the Mulu Cave are the Deer Cave and the Clear Water Cave. On the war against illegal logging, Adenan said it has achieved some degree of success, adding that a lot of illegally cut logs had been seized and 33 sawmills closed down with a further five plywood or veneer mills being rendered inactive due to shortage of illegal logs to feed such mills. “However not many of the illegal loggers have been nabbed and put in jail. I hope to see an improvement soon on this aspect,” he said. He again reminded everybody working in the enforcement that there must be no let-up in efforts to wipe out illegal logging in the state. Adenan said even the big six companies are being closely monitored, adding that he would not hesitate to cancel their licence if they are found to have breached their licence. The chief minister also stressed that all the national parks in Sarawak are open to the public, including the non-governmental organisations (NGOs), who are interested to do research there. -- BERNAMA
