Putin's tiger earns $500 for wildlife preservation projects

VLADIVOSTOK, June 2. /TASS/. Kuzya, the tiger released into the wild by Russian President Vladimir Putin last year, has earned over $500 thanks to an Australian documentary, the head of the far-eastern Phoenix wildlife fund said on Tuesday. Kuzya's adventures in China last autumn were followed by a big buzz in Chinese media and prompted Australian producers to make a documentary titled In Search of Putin's Tiger, Sergey Bereznyuk said. "The film has been popular in China and some of its revenues were donated to the fund," he said, adding that the money would be spent on Siberian tiger and Far East leopard preservation projects. "This is a small sum, just $519, but is a good example of how people can help tiger preservation," the environmentalist said. Kuzya is one of five tiger cubs found in Far East taiga some two years ago and taken to a sanctuary. Kuzya and two other tigers were released into the wild by President Putin last May. Two others were set free in June. Read more
