Sabah Parks-Kyoto University Tie Employers Sabah Parks' Management

KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), March 2 (Bernama) -- A collaboration between the Board of Trustees of Sabah Parks (Sabah Parks) and Kyoto University, Japan in numerous aspects can empower the direction and management of parks in Sabah. State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Masidi Manjun, who said this Monday, disclosed that cooperation between Sabah Parks and Japanese research groups had started since 1983. "Cooperation in research, education and conservation will make the Sabah Parks Strategic Plan, which was launched last year, into a reality," he said at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sabah Parks and the university here. His speech text was delivered by State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry Permanent Secretary Ginum Yangus. Masidi said via the MoU, numerous activities would be conducted including training to boost the skills of the manpower of Sabah Parks, seminars and awareness programmes on ecosystem including in the tropical rain forest. Manwhile, Sabah Parks director Dr Jamili Nais said a study of highland ecosystem would be conducted in the state headed by a Japanese researcher Professor Kanehiro Kitayama. According to Jamili, the focus of the study encompassed the effect of weather change in the mountain areas which impacted on habitats and species. -- BERNAMA
