KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (Bernama) -- Saudi Arabia’s two new green initiatives “Green Saudi” and “Green Middle East” launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday (March 28) is set to chart the Kingdom and the region's direction in protecting the whole region's land and nature. A statement highlighting the overview of the initiatives made available to Bernama by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia here, today said the initiatives were aimed to support the kingdom and the region by providing a clear roadmap that will contribute significantly towards achieving global targets to fight climate change. “The announcement aims to join efforts and start work from the countries of the region to come out with detailed plans for initiatives that can be achieved in order to enhance public health and raise the quality of life for citizens and residents in the region in the fourth quarter of this year,” the statement said. Saudi’s Green Initiative is an ambitious national initiative of Saudi Arabia that aims to improve the quality of life and protect future generations. The initiative includes a number of ambitious initiatives including planting trees within the kingdom, reducing carbon emissions by more than four per cent of global contributions and planning for renewable energy projects that will raise the share of clean energy for energy production in the kingdom to 50 per cent by 2030. Where else, the Green Middle East Initiative is for the region that aims to coordinate efforts and keep pace with regional and international developments, which the kingdom launched as a regional road map for the region to contribute significantly towards achieving global goals to fight climate change. -- BERNAMA
