In priority, we are studying from experts from Japan, Korea, Malaysia and UNESCO Geoscience Program Office experiences in operating geoparks of other countries, ways of setting geopark up, and what criteria are to be fulfilled to join the GGN. Mongolia has identified its important geological sites. In particular, the Institute of Paleontology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences has been working at Shar Tsav site in Umnugobi aimag for over last 10 years. If it is proved to meet certain requirements, Mongolia will commence an activity to have own geopark in joining the GGN, Secretary-General of the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO S.Uyanga said. UNESCO Global Geoparks program launched in 2011 with aims to contribute to local sustainable development through developing important geological sites.
