UAE, U.S. discuss cooperation on waste management and hazardous materials

ABU DHABI, 1st May 2016 (WAM)--The UAE delegation has discussed with the U.S. federal and local government officials, ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of waste management and hazardous materials. This came during the recent visit of the UAE delegation headed by Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Secretary-General of the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi to the United States in coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi to identify best practices in the management of hazardous substances and wastes through the stages of their life cycle from production to disposal. The UAE delegation included representatives from the General Directorate of Customs in Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company "ADNOC" and the Centre for Waste Management - Abu Dhabi "Tadweer", the Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, Abu Dhabi Ports, the Public Authority for the security of ports, borders, free zones, the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi and others. Al Mubarak said the hazardous materials pose a significant threat to public health and the environment if control is not tightened on all stages, including the use, transfer and stockpiling of these materials.
