UN Envoy Urges Region To Adopt Unified Environmental Approach

Tehran, Feb 2, IRNA -- Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Nickolay Mladenov on Saturday urged regional states, including Iran and Iraq, to follow a consolidated approach towards environment. Mladenov made the remarks in a meeting with Iranˈs Head of Department of Environment Massoumeh Ebtekar. Referring to the problem of tiny particles in the region, the UN envoy said it will not be solved without cooperation of the regional countries. Ms Ebtekar, too, stressed importance of activating the regional tiny particles fund. She further called for joint regional cooperation on environmental issues. Ms Ebtekar, heading a delegation, departed for Iraq on January 31 to hold talks with Iraqi officials on the tiny particlesˈ issue as well as environmental questions./end
