Vietnam attends UNIDO projects

Hanoi, July 8 (VNA)- The Prime Minister has approved Vietnam’s participation in a regional project funded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) as part of efforts to implement the Stockholm Convention of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP). The project, which will use non-refundable aid sourced by the Global Environmental Facility Fund (GEF), will focus on demonstrating best available techniques (BAT) and best environmental practices (BEP) in open burning activities in response to the Stockholm Convention. The PM assigned the Ministry of Nature Resources and Environment (MoNRE) to cooperate with UNIDO to complete documents and sign the project with sponsoring partners, as well as to implement the project in line with the regulations. The projects is expected to help reduce the unintentional emission of POPs by industrial sectors in Vietnam, contributing to protecting the environment and human’s health, especially during the country’s industrialization and modernization period.-VNA
