Wildlife Dept Identifies Four Locations Targetted By Wild Elephants During Fruit Season

SETIU (Terengganu, Malaysia), July 24 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Wildlife and National Parks Department (Wildlife) has identified four locations in three districts in the state which attracted wild elephants, especially during the fruit season. Its director, Yusoff Shariff said there were Air Putih and Pasir Gajah in Kemaman, Hulu Seladang in Setiu and in Hulu Besut. He said the department had so far caught three wild elephants in the affected areas this year and the pachyderm had been transferred to the National Park. “I hope residents will continue to cooperate with us by informing the presence of wild elephants in their area and to not take any action on their own to chase away the animal," he added. He was met by reporters after an operation to transfer a wild elephant which was caught in Hulu Seladang last July 14 to the Sungai Deka National Park in Hulu Terengganu Thursday. -- BERNAMA
