ˈIran Dailyˈ says, US should decide!

Tehran, Sept 20, IRNA - ˈIran Dailyˈ on Saturday underscored that Iran should spare no efforts to use concessions in nuclear talks with the world powers, which is a principle of diplomacy. The varied French and German approaches on Iran’s nuclear program exists, but the final decision rests with the US, added the English-language paper in its Opinion column, (pg 3). The European Union has been seeking to adopt policies corresponding to those of the United States regarding ties with Iran. After the Second World War, the clout of the EU was eclipsed by the influential role of the US and as a result, economic power of European states eroded while Washington managed to become the top economic power in the world. Since the White House has been able to further consolidate its economic powerhouse, the EU often acclimatizes itself to the policies formulated by the “headman of the West”. Ironically, the UK is keen on a more favorable approach to that of the US compared with the two other European countries due to historical and cultural reasons, noted the daily. Hence, it stands out a mile that the buck firmly stops with the US when the issue of nuclear talks between Iran and major world powers gains momentum. However, European states attach more importance to economic ties with Tehran, highlighted the paper. Former US president Bill Clinton had imposed sanctions on Iran but the Europeans made huge investments in Iran’s oil, gas and auto industries. Iran’s lucrative market lured the French to top the list of foreign investors before 2011 strict embargoes were imposed on Tehran. Paris has often adopted more independent policies compared with those of other EU members to benefit from ties with the Persian Gulf country, it added. The savvy and experienced negotiators of Iran’s nuclear negotiation team are well aware that the EU hinders nuclear talks if its principles are compromised. As an example, France threw a monkey wrench in the second round of Geneva talks although such an approach was opposed to the policies formulated by the US./end
