1 Malaysia Taste At Malaysian Embassy Food Bazaar In Belgium

Chandravathani PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 5 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Embassy Food Bazaar 2015 in Brussels last Saturday showcased the 1Malaysia concept through an array of delicious and popular dishes from each of Malaysia’s diverse cultures. Malaysian Ambassador to Belgium, Nafisah Mohamed said the bazaar, themed 'The Flavours of Malaysia', reflected the true essence of each ethnic group. She said each cuisine was so unique that no other country in the world could boast a similar blend of cuisine. She added that the bazaar was a gratifying example of how Malaysians came together abroad to collaborate on what they loved most, were most proud of as Malaysians, and shared it with the community in Belgium. "We are proud and want to promote our Malaysian food abroad, and it shows how united we are as a multi-ethnic society," she told Bernama via an email interview here Friday. This year, 10 stalls serving a wide variety of Malaysia's culinary-style food cooked by Malaysians, made the fair in the vicinity of the Malaysian Embassy in Brussels. It was akin to visitors visiting Malaysia, without even leaving Belgium. The bazaar was organised by the Malaysian Embassy in Belgium, together with the Malaysian community through the Malaysian Association in Belgium and Luxembourg (MABL) and Ladies Association of the Embassy of Malaysia (Perwakilan). Dedicated to a taste of explosions from food representing the multicultural mix, the spread ranged from intricate roti jala (Malay net pancakes) and delicious popiah (fried spring rolls) to the everpopular nasi lemak (fragrant dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf), satay (skewered and grilled meat served with sauce), vindaloo biryani and Chinese noodles. Meanwhile, MABL president Sarah Vanherck said the bazaar was aimed at promoting the spirit of sharing among Malaysians and Belgians as they came together for food. She said the culinary affair had proven attractive to nearly 200 people with a truly international mix. With each race offering its own signature dishes and traditional fare, Vanherck, a Malaysian married to a Belgian, said the annual event was to enhance the Malaysia-Belgium cultural relations. -- BERNAMA
