A Bird Eye View Below From KL Tower's Sky Box

By Soon Li Wei KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- Standing on a transparent glass box 300 metres above ground can be both daunting and thrilling experience for those who love the adrenaline rush. This is what one could expect inside the Sky Box, a glass room that extends from the Sky Deck of the KL Tower in Bukit Nanas, that provides a bird eye’s view of the city below and much of the Klang Valley in the horizon. This latest attraction of the capital city's landmark offers visitors a unique view from the seventh tallest freestanding tower in the world. The 421 metres high KL Tower with an observation deck, a banquet floor and a revolving restaurant, even stands taller than the Petronas Twin Towers as it is situated on Bukit Nanas that is 94 metres above sea level. Apart from acting as a landmark, KL Tower also functions as a broadcasting station, telecommunication station for Telco companies. Up to six people can enjoy the breathtaking 360 degree panoramic view from the sky at any one time from the transparent glass floor and walls of the glassbox. KL Tower Chief Executive Officer Meor Shahril Anuar Ahmad Rathuan said the Sky Box was officially opened to the public on May 20 in conjunction with the tower's 20th anniversary this year. The Sky Box idea came about to take advantage of KL Tower's height and lure more people to the tower's Sky Deck. "The Sky Box, which opens from 10am to 10pm daily, also offers dazzling sights at night. "With a US$18 (RM75) per entry fee to the Sky Deck, visitors can also head over to the Sky Box for no additional charge and snap memorable photos using their mobile phones or cameras," he added. TARGET According to Meor Shahril, KL Tower has targetted 1 million visitors this year especially looking at the 20 percent increase in visitors after the Sky Box was opened. "521,715 visitors were recorded in 2015, out of which 389,547 were foreigners. We target one million visitors by December 2016 and till May we have received 217,959 visitors," he pointed out. Besides the Sky Box, Meor Shahril said visitors could also check out the Upside Down House attraction that is expected to open in June. "We are in the final stages of completing the attraction that is expected to draw more people after the Sky Box," he said. 20TH ANNIVERSARY In conjunction with KL Tower's 20th anniversary, various activities have been planned and carried out throughout the year to lure more local and foreign tourists. "Among the activities held is the 20 Years Logo Design Competition, photography competition, selfie contest, treasure hunt, fear factor event and 'Bintang Idola'. "We will also be holding an anniversary dinner function at the Atmosphere 360 Revolving Restaurant which will be attended by VIPs, including ministers, this October," said Meor Shahril.
