Bosnia And Herzegovina Appreciative Of Malaysia's Role In Supporting UN Resolution

By : Nabilah Saleh and Siti Noor Afera Abu KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina has expressed appreciation over Malaysia's role in backing a United Nations Security Council resolution on the 1995 Srebrenica massacre. Its ambassador to Malaysia, Tarik Bukvic, noted that Malaysia had done its best in efforts to recognise the massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys as 'genocide'. "The most important thing about the resolution is to recognise that the massacre in Srebrenica was a genocide. The intention is to highlight, reiterate the issue and call upon all sides not to deny it. "In this regard, Malaysia (a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council) is very supportive and has played a key role and we're grateful for this," he said. Bukvic told Bernama this here Thursday in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the massacre observed on July 11 annually. The envoy pointed out that Malaysia had rendered assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina despite being far apart geographically. Bukvic said that besides political support, Kuala Lumpur had provided material aid to help his countrymen in their time of need. The resolution to condemn the massacre as a 'crime of genocide' had been drafted to mark the 20th anniversary of the atrocity which came amid the bloody break-up of Yugoslavia into independent states. --BERNAMA
