Conditions Unfavorable For US-Iran Co-op: Daily

Tehran, Oct 1, IRNA - As long as America’s main policy in the region is to provide full support to Israel, cooperation between Iran and the US appears to be quite unlikely, wrote 'Iran Daily' on Wednesday. The US and Iran have never had similar stands on developments in the Middle East, since Washington looks at the region from a colonial standpoint whereas Tehran seeks to defend the interests of regional nations, elucidated the English-language paper in its Opinion column. Profound disagreements and conditions exist which are unfavorable for cooperation. The US set up an international coalition to conduct airstrikes on ISIL positions in Iraq and Syria without a mandate from the UN Security Council. Iran is totally opposed to this and cannot join an unauthorized military coalition because it runs counter Tehran’ principles and policies. Iran will never accept to stand by the US as tool for accomplishing its objectives in the region, underscored the paper. The settlement of long-running disputes between Iran and the US heavily depends on a major change in America’s current policies. If the US continues its present polices, tension will remain in place. Washington should review its policies and respect the interests of other nations if it wants to profit from Iran’s capabilities for restoring peace and security in the region. However, a look at America’s performance in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Afghanistan in the past years indicates that it acted against the interests of Iran and other regional countries, it stressed. President Barack Obama seems to have adopted a softer stance toward Iran and tries, along with Democrats, to resolve the issue of Iran’s nuclear energy program before his term comes to an end but the point is that he is not the only decision maker, pointed out the paper. The White House is under tremendous pressure from the Congress and the Zionist lobby which have spared no effort the sabotage the course of nuclear talks in order to prevent a final deal with Iran, the daily noted in conclusion./end
