Fight against corruption is still among the country’s primary tasks

Astana, 27 February 2009, Khabar – President receives Fiscal Police chief. In his capital residence, the Ak Orda, Nursultan Nazarbayev has received the chairman of the fiscal police, Kairat Kozhamzharov. The fight against corruption is still among the Republic’s primary tasks. The Nur Otan Party and a special commission under the president are now working on this issue. However, the anti-corruption agency still has a special mission as Nursultan Nazarbayev set a number of tasks. Apart from inspections in terms of license distribution among natural resource extraction companies and their effective work, the President also asked the structure to take control of the taxes received from alcohol producers. According to the president, at least 70% of this business is illegal. The flow of the national fund money is now to be under the special control of the fiscal structure.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- I have formed a commission with your agency right in the middle. You now have to ensure that every tenge is used adequately with no corrupt schemes present. I think that the General Prosecutor’s Office, National Security Committee and other bodies should help your agency.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also asked for hot lines to be established in the regions. The experience of Malaysia and Singapore should be taken into consideration.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- We will have to insert some amendments into the laws in order to make state employees confirm the source of property they have. Those who help to reveal such corrupt officials will be rewarded with money.

The President also highlighted that he supported the agency’s activity and asked for the results to be reported to him personally.
