Good Eating Habit Augur Well for All Malaysians

By Hazlinda Hamzah KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- All young Malaysians should be taught the good habit of taking breakfast every morning. In fact, good eating habits should be inculcated in adults too. Everyone should learn to eat ‘sufficiently’ everyday, not only where quantity is concerned, Ng Su Yen, who is the Consumer Marketing Manager (Business) for Milo, told Bernama here. "It all begins with the eating of a good breakfast," she said, adding that breakfast gives an individual the much-needed boost to start the day energetically. "Primary school children, who took part in a study by Nestle and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) some years back, admitted that they felt lethargic if they did not take breakfast," said Ng. Ng said the study found that 33 per cent of primary school children or one in every three young children did not consume breakfast before going to school in the morning. The study targeted close to 10,000 school students nationwide. FAMILY BREAKFAST DAY This year, Milo, a beverage brand under the Nestle umbrella, is organising an activity for Malaysians, especially families, to mark the company's seriousness in encouraging breakfast as the first meal of the day. "We realise that there is a need to achieve a better percentage of children and adults taking breakfast daily. We also aim to encourage Malaysians to have breakfast with Milo. "We have so far shared some quick recipes on our portal," Ng said. There will be Milo products for families and young Malaysians joining in the fun-filled day, organised with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a partner of this ‘have breakfast daily’ encouragement event. "We hope to see 10,000 Malaysians in UPM this Sunday, on the 19th of May, making pledges to diligently eat breakfast - a healthy habit to live by daily," Ng went on to share. FUN RUN Among the activities lined up on the Malaysian Breakfast Day is a fun run called 'Milo Breakfast Run'. To date, 7,000 participants have signed up for the Milo Breakfast Run, which will be held as the main activity at UPM. She said 500 people have signed up for the 3.0-km run while 6,500 more will participate in the 7.0-km category. "We have a category for families of four to be a part of the run as well. We hope to see more Malaysians joining in the run for a healthy course, and the response so far has been overwhelming," she said. This family breakfast day event will be held annually after its launch in UPM, and in the future, Milo hopes to plan the event simultaneously in more than one venue. Health checks and family games will colour the event planned for May 19. More information is available at www.milo.com.my/breakfast. -- BERNAMA
