ISIL Gone Out Of Control Of Its Supporters

Tehran, Aug 27, IRNA - Lawmaker Ahmad Shohani, a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said that an international consensus is being forged against the ISIL since the terrorist group has gone out of control of its regional supporters. In an exclusive interview with ˈIran Dailyˈ, Shohani added said that evidence exists that the US even seeks cooperation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to fight ISIL terrorists operating in his country. “Of course, this does not mean that the Americans support Assad, because ISIL terrorists were primarily sent to Syria to overthrow Assad himself.” When asked about whether the Syrian president will play a part in the formation of such a consensus and help the US in the fight against the ISIL, the MP said Assad is now popular in Syria and has no fear of America. “Moreover, he has been able to resist ISIL’s terrorist activities.” Shohani noted that the ISIL is a threat to global security and all countries are against them and demand the annihilation of the terrorist group. The lawmaker further ruled out the possibility of Iran’s cooperation with the US against the ISIL. “Currently, the Americans are not after the complete destruction of ISIL forces and their objective is only targeting ISIL strongholds in airstrikes in order to bring them under control. Iran will not work with the US under current conditions.” He added that the US seeks to save Yazidi and Christian minorities in Iraq by conducting a series of air raids while Iran’s demand is the total destruction of the terrorist group. “If the purpose of forming an international consensus will be the eradication of the ISIL, then Iran can play a more effective role,” the legislator pointed out. Seyyed Baqer Hosseini, another lawmaker from the same parliamentary committee, stressed that Iran will not be part of such a consensus because it has no confidence in the United States. Hosseini added that the ISIL will not become more powerful because his main financial supporter and supplier of military hardware is Saudi Arabia which is now under international fire for its support of the terrorist group. “The ISIL will receive assistance from its regional supporters, because it’s turning into a serious global threat”, he said. The MP further downplayed American airstrikes against ISIL positions as propaganda campaign to mislead world public opinion.
