Joyous Independence Day Celebration In Bangkok

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa BANGKOK, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- The 59th Malaysian Independence Day anniversary was celebrated with much joy by the Malaysian Embassy staff in Thailand and Malaysian nationals residing in this country. Dressed in the traditional attire of Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung, the Malaysians arrived at the embassy grounds at Sathorn Road, here as early as 7am (local time) for the occasion. The program began at 7.30am with the raising of the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag) followed by the singing of the national anthem 'Negaraku', led by the Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, Nazirah Hussain. About 30 children of the Malaysian Embassy staff in Thailand, attired in the traditional dress, were also involved in the celebration on Wednesday by singing several patriotic songs. Before the conclusion of the Independence Day celebration, the Malaysians were treated to local breakfast cuisines of such as 'nasi lemak', curry puffs, 'mee bandung' and 'teh tarik'. --BERNAMA
