Is Justo's Arrest Linked To Conspiracy To Topple Legitimate Government?

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- Political analysts believe the meeting between Xavier Andre Justo and Malaysia's opposition leaders, if true, shows a conspiracy to topple the government of Prime Minister Najib Razak. The former PetroSaudi International (PSI) executive admitted meeting several opposition leaders who wanted to buy information to discredit the government in connection with 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), a strategic development company, wholly owned by the Government of Malaysia.. Prof Dr Zainal Kling said that if it was true that Justo met with opposition leaders to buy classifided information about 1MDB, then it was seen as a political conspiracy to topple the National Front (Barisan Nasional or BN) government. "This was triggered following a collaboration between the local people and foreigners. The locals are very irresponsible because they tarnish the country's image with scandalous reports about 1MDB." Zainal said the foreigners wanted to tarnish the image of the Malaysian Government because they were envious of the country's success in economic and social development. He was commenting on alleged attempts to topple the government by destabilising the country and jeopardising national security. It was reported that opposition leaders had met Justo to buy information from him to discredit the Malaysian Government. Meanwhile, Assoc Prof Dr Zaid Ahmad said as long as there was no proof, the scenario could be considered as a psychological warfare between opposing political parties. "If it is a conspiracy, then it must be followed by prosecution for attempting to topple a democratically-elected government." Asked whether it could affect national security and unity, he said it was unfair to blame the foreigners for this because they did not have any authority. "The people of this country need to have a high awareness in fostering cooperation and unity. We need to see whether we really have the strength." -- BERNAMA
