Malaysian PM's Wife Visits Hiyoriyama Memorial Monument

From D. Arul Rajoo SENDAI (Japan), May 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Prime Minister's wife Rosmah Mansor (three right) on Tuesday visited the Hiyoriyama Memorial Monument, built to commemorate the devastating earthquake that hit the northeast coast of Japan on March 11, 2011. She also visited a temporary shelter for the victims of the disaster, which is still housing 60 families. Rosmah in 2011 had launched a campaign to raise funds for the victims of the disaster and had collected US$1.17 million (RM4.3 million). It was the biggest earthquake in 140 years for Japan, and triggered a 10-metre tsunami that swept away everything in its path, killing more than 15,000 people and leaving over 2,000 still missing. According to Japan's Reconstruction Agency, four years after the quake, about 230,000 people who lost their homes are still living in temporary housing. (photoBERNAMA) --BERNAMA
