Media Urged To Support Asean-China Relations

From Anas Abu Hassan NANJING (China), Oct 25 (Bernama) -- ASEAN and China media have been urged to increase their coverage of ASEAN and China's socio-economic development in an objective and fair light, with a precise grasp of the trend of ASEAN-China relations. ASEAN-China Centre secretary general, Yang Xiuping said this would spread positive energy for friendly cooperation between the two sides. "The media need to promptly disseminate the message of friendly cooperation, portray the ongoing development of all activities of relations of two sides, as well as encourage the general public to take part in ASEAN-China cooperation," she said at a forum, here. She was speaking at the Silk Road Media Cooperation Forum in conjunction with the World Historical and Cultural Cities Expo here. Yang recommended for both ASEAN and China media to further search new networks and platforms to enhance media cooperation to a higher level. "The Silk Road Media Alliance initiated at this forum is a good example," she said. Yang said the ASEAN and Chinese media may expand cooperation on new media platforms and embrace more new young audiences to raise the awareness of ASEAN-China relations. "Make good use of new technology. We are living in an era of IT application and the internet," she said. ASEAN and China relations have gone from strength to strength over the past 25 years. The Maritime Silk Road of the 21st century is expected to further unite and expand common interests between China and other countries situated along the route, activate potential growth and achieve mutual benefits in wider areas. --BERNAMA
