Nearly 3,000 Fresh Flower Stalks Decorate 2015 ASEAN Summit Logo

By S. Chandravathani and Nur Ashikin Abdul Aziz KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Nearly 3,000 stalks of fresh flowers are being utilised for the decoration of the logo for Malaysia's Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2015. The logo, made up of 10 coloured curved elements that form a circle around the ASEAN logo, is visibly located near the VIP entrance of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the main venue of the 27th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. Azizan Hadi Saat, the owner of Arjuna Cipta Florist from Shah Alam (in Selangor state), has been given the task to decorate the 10 coloured curved elements with three types of flowers, namely roses, orchids and chrysanthemums. As work to pin the flowers began around noon Thursday, Azizan when met by Bernama, said: "It will take about five hours to complete it. The chrysanthemums will take a longer time as we need to cut the flowers from the stalk and pin them to the logo." He said 1,000 stalks of red roses, 1,500 purple and green orchids and 300 stalks of blue, green and yellow chrysanthemums would be used for the decoration. Notwithstanding the herculean task involved in decorating the logo, Azizan was elated for the opportunity given to show his talent. "I would not want to miss this chance to be part of the historical ASEAN Summit 2015," he said, adding that he also did a flower arrangement for National Day this year. Asked if a heavy downpour would spoil the decoration, Azizan said: "Flowers love rain to bloom and become more beautiful." -- BERNAMA
