Nomadic civilization village
Almaty, April 18, 2009 (Khabar) - An island of ancient nomadic civilization has been reconstructed in the Almaty region. This unusual village now features almost all of the forgotten Kazakh traditions. People in this populated area can have a saki bath, try some national cookery and play zhamby aty which is an ancient game where a shooter has to hit a coin. The village is expected to receive up to 500 people. Local historians and cultural experts say they support such a project as it is a common task for people to preserve and multiply the heritage left by their ancestors.
Zhagda Babalykuly, ethnographer:
- These 15 hundred recipes were found in China, eastern Kazakhstan, Taldykorgan and Almaty. This is not the full list. For instance, cookery in western regions differs as it primarily consists of fish.
Akhmetbek Nursila says he wants to promote kumys worldwide as a Kazakh national brand. Once, Herodotus described this drink as a healthy and tasty one. The businessman is convinced that in the near future, the Nomadic civilization village will soon be packed with tourists.
