Nuclear Forum Opens In Moscow, Focuses On Advantages, Problems Of Nuclear Power Sector

Ravichandran MOSCOW, June 1 (Bernama) -- The 7th ATOMEXPO 2015 International Forum on Nuclear Energy opened here Monday, with focus among others, on advantages and problems faced by the nuclear power sector and its impact on socio-economic development. The three-day VII ATOMEXPO 2015, at Gostiny Dvor exhibition centre gathered some 1,000 people from 40 countries, including leading global experts in nuclear industry, governmental and pubic organisations, Russian and foreign industrial companies and the media. The forum is organised by Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation, known as Rosatom. The event saw the gathering of the world's nuclear power experts and engineers dedicated to the development of nuclear power and peaceful use of nuclear technologies. The main event of the first day of the forum will be a plenary session, as well as round-table discussions among others, on the topics of 'Tools and Mechanisms of International Scientific and Educational Cooperation for Sustainable Development' and on 'Nuclear Technologies and Financing of Rosatom's Foreign Projects: Current Status and Prospects'. The forum's business programme will focus on international cooperation of Russia with South America, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Central and Eastern Europe countries, in the field of nuclear power engineering, as well as discussions of Russia's offers for development of national energy programmes. A number of agreements, memorandi and contracts are expected to be signed by the Russian Government, Rosatom State Corporation and foreign partners. Besides this, over 60 Russian and foreign nuclear power companies are participating in an exhibition programme of the forum, such as Rosatom State Corporation, China National Nuclear Corporation, Hitachi, Ltd (Japan), Schneider Electric (France) and Nucleoelectrica Argentina S. A. (Argentina). The theme for this year is 'Nuclear Power as an Impulse for Socio-Economic Development'. -- BERNAMA
