Obamaˈs Order To Conduct ˈHumanitarianˈ Airstrikes In Iraq, Displays Total Moral Bankruptcy: Daily

Tehran, Aug 9, IRNA - ˈKayhan Internationalˈ on Saturday condemned US President Barack Obamaˈs authorization to conduct ˈhumanitarianˈ airstrikes in Iraq should terrorist groups move towards Arbil or any US facilities elsewhere in that country. This is the very same US President who gave carte blanche to the criminal regime of Israel to attack Gaza (in the most blatant contemporary example of disregard for international law), pointed out the English-language daily in its viewpoint column. Obamaˈs claim of engaging in ˈtargeted airstrikes” is what he wants in his so-called ˈhumanitarian re-intervention” is ˈreconciliation among Iraqi communities and stronger Iraqi security forces”. He also promised that Americans would not be ˈdragged into another war” in Iraq, criticized the paper. Nevertheless, whatever action Obama takes, it will be the first step down the slippery slope to full-scale US ˈre-intervention” in the region, pointed out the paper. Undoubtedly, US airstrikes as always cannot and will not stop the terrorist groups. The US army needs people on the ground, and the Iraqi army – as we have seen – doesn’t cut it, added the daily. However, it remains to be seen if this ˈhumanitarian disaster” ploy is going to deceive the international community into giving Washington yet another blank check to ˈsave” Iraq, reflected the paper. The sickening hypocrisy of US bombing to ˈsave” innocent civilians is doubly underscored by the fact that Washington not only stood by and watched as their Israeli masters slaughtered children and women in Gaza – they sent Tel Aviv a fresh supply of deadly weapons to carry out the genocide, noted the daily, adding that the Congress passed a resolution hailing the Zionist murder spree and declaring its unconditional support. And the United Nations in the meantime did absolutely nothing, decried the paper! So it looks rather silly to see the US army going back to Iraq to ˈsave” the victims of American foreign policies – in a disgusting display of absolute moral bankruptcy, mocked the English-language daily in its Viewpoint column. As prospects for US re-intervention grow larger, it is important to remember that the current crisis is in fact rooted in the destruction of Iraqi society brought on by the 2003 US-led invasion and occupation. Therefore, many reasons exist why US military re-intervention is a terrible idea and Iraqis are better off saying ‘No, thank you’. Any shock and awe campaign by the US military will only make the situation worse. Obama cannot help Iraqis caught in a civil war by dropping bombs on them or using drones and cruise missiles. In addition, military intervention will only deepen the major social, ethnic, religious and political divisions in Iraq and the wider region. Any military response on the part of Washington will equally escalate the conflict, with innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. It is now an open secret that the terrorist group of ISIL, which calls itself the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, has been trained, funded and supported by the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Israel via proxies in Jordan and Turkey to dismember Iraq into three states - with the help of thousands of European terrorists. As maintained by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Iraq needs reconciliation and reconstruction, not re-intervention and the rebooting of ˈhumanitarian” war. In his words: ˈThe U.S. is trying to retake control of Iraq by exploiting sectarian rivalries.” That is exactly what is happening now./end
