Paper Slams UK's Intrusive Remarks Against Iran

Tehran, Sept 30, IRNA - An English-language paper on Tuesday vehemently condemned British PM David Cameron baseless statement against Iran, saying that Cameron not only failed to thaw Tehran-London ties, but has added insult to injury. If the UK is eying to patch up ties with Iran, then it should revere the Islamic Republic and refrain from making obtrusive remarks, underscored 'Iran Daily' in its Opinion column. Rejecting Cameron's admonishments against Iranian officials for “infringing upon human rights” in his address to the UN General Assembly meeting on Wednesday, the paper stressed that such intrusive remarks flout global conventions, which ban states from intervening in internal affairs of other countries. Iranians never authorize such officious figures to meddle in their domestic affairs, it pointed out adding that Iranians boast of their ancient civilization. In the era that Britain had not come into existence, the residents of the Persian state took delight in an advanced civilization and culture. In the last two centuries, the UK has been seeking to butt in on Iran’s domestic affairs, it noted, adding that, while the colonist regime has adopted intrusive approaches, the Islamic Republic takes pleasure in a political system that is based on democracy. After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iranians took charge of their destiny and elected their leaders. The democratic process ended the interference of the UK and the US on the eve of the newly-formed revolution. Although before the revolution, the UK played a key role in Iran’s political system, the Islamic establishment entitled people to full authority to elect officials directly or indirectly. Undoubtedly, Cameron’s belligerent remarks have degraded him. The Shah (Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the deposed king of Iran) was a protégé of the West, while the Islamic Revolution never succumbs to illegitimate demands of its detractors, said the paper in conclusion./end
