VIII Eurasian media forum ended

Almaty, April 25, 2009 (Khabar) - Journalists, political scientists and diplomats from 44 countries are returning home. The second day of the 8th Eurasian media forum saw exciting debate. They have discussed international policy of USA and what has changed since 100 days of ruling of US President, Barack Obama. If America will manage to over come interior crisis and save global economy? Attendees discussed the situation in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan and the position of the American administration concerning Cuba and Venezuela. Harold Ford said that the election of Obama signals a kind of new beginning for America. Currently, even Hugo Chávez and Raul Castro admitted this.

Hushan Amirahmadi, political scientist, Iran:
- The Middle East is an integrated region and we can not define its particular problems. I think that it is important to use a more integrated view concerning this region.

Speakers also discussed the prospects of Russian-American relations. Dmitriy Medvedev and Barack Obama agreed about the holding of negotiations on the division of attack weapons but they still didn’t come to an agreement about the US Missile Defence System. Some experts think that the resolution of these issues will require a lot of time. Also, the US expert announced that Kazakh-American relations will not see substantial transformations.

Zalmay Khalilzad, former constant US representative in UN:
- Kazakhstan is a key country in Central Asian region and it is very important for USA to support and develop relations with the republic to keep balance in Central Asia. We are interested in Kazakhstan’s cooperation with its neighbors and it is really very wise policy that must be continued.

The media crisis was also one of the most crucial issues of the forum. Analysts believe that the crisis changed the interests of both viewers and readers. Currently, they are interested in business news.
The media space is changing and the centre of gravity has shifted to the Internet, due to it low primary cost and the efficiency of virtual services.

Maxim Shevchenko, Author and host of “Judge by yourselves” political talk show, Channel 1, Russia:
- When we say that the Internet has information we sometimes change the notion of information itself. Every expression has its own information. Information can be social and private. The Internet does not have any limits in this regard which is why different information can be mixed.
Currently on-line diaries, blogs are very popular in the world. About 200 million users of Internet are bloggers and 350 millions are their readers. Usual clerks and even leaders of states have blogs but if the information is form first hands there. And Alexander Kogan, Chief Editor, Daily Mnenia (Opinions) web magazine, Israel considers it is necessary to check up not only official and unofficial sources but also what people write.
The 8th Eurasian Media Forum has come to an end. Over two days, journalists, political experts and diplomats from 44 countries discussed global issues of how the world has changed after global financial shocks and what lessons should be learnt from it and what the mass media should do in such situations. There were a lot of questions which means there will be further discussions.
