‘Big Cleaning’ at Thai beach affected by oil spill

BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) - Massive cleanup work is underway on the east of Koh Samet Island, which has been hit by an oil spill. Thai soldiers and volunteers worked along beachfront areas of Ao Prao in eastern Rayong province as part of the “Big Cleaning Day” campaign. CEO of PTT Global Chemical Anon Sirisaengtaksin, who took part in the campaign along with Rayong Governor Wichit Chartpaisit, also offered financial compensations to affected people to make up for the accident. Updated reports said however, local seawater and waterfront areas were still tainted with oil slick at a small extent. (TNA)
