‘Iranian, South African women both struggled hard for their rights’

TEHRAN,June 17(MNA) – The women of Iran and South Africa have great experience in struggling for and acquiring their rights, which can provide a proper foundation for cooperation and the exchange of experiences, Iranian Vice President for Women’s and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi said on Monday. Molaverdi made the remarks at an event held in Tehran to mark the 20th year since the liberation of South Africa and the abolishment of the apartheid regime. South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane also made a speech at the ceremony, which was held at the International Studies and Research Center, which is affiliated to the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Molaverdi cited the economic and political relations between Iran and South Africa over the past 20 years as a clear example of the two countries’ interest in maintaining and expanding their relations. She also called for the expansion of cooperation between Iran and South Africa in the scientific and cultural spheres.
