‘No Smoking’ in public place campaign

BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) - More than 600 bicyclists and runners on Sunday travelled around central Bangkok and distributed stickers to passersby, urging them to be aware of ‘No Smoking’ in public places as it endangers the health of non-smokers. They began riding bicycles while many ran from the Vachirabenjatas Park to the Victory Monument and ended the campaign at the National Stadium and distributed stickers to passersby as well as to motorists. The campaign was launched by Dr. Bandit Sornpaisarn, director of the Health Risk Control I Section under the Health Promotion Foundation. The campaign was organised after it was found that smokers also continue to smoke in public places which are prohibited. Smoking inside markets is found most followed by public parks. Maximum fine imposed on smokers in public places is 2,000 baht while it is 5,000 baht for those caught on smoking on public buses and inside airports. (TNA)
