“The Killer” to appear on stage at Tehran theater

TEHRAN,Sept.21(MNA) -- Iranian director Mohammad Fatehi will stage Eugène Ionesco’s “The Killer” at the Rokneddin Khosravi Hall of Tehran’s Se-Noqteh Theater Complex in November 2013. He has renamed the play “Unhired Killer”, which was translated by Yahya Azarnush into Persian from the French version of book. Saeid Esfandiari, Amir-Hossein Yarmohammadi, Mojtaba Qorbani, Parandeh Alaeii and Elaheh Hajizadeh will star in the play. Ionesco (1909–1994) wrote the play in 1958. It is about Bérenger, Ionesco’s downtrodden everyman, who discovers an ideal “radiant city”. The idea of a “radiant city” or a transcendent other world is a common theme in many of Ionesco’s plays. This relates to a transcendent experience Ionesco had in his childhood. Ionesco was a Romanian playwright who wrote mostly in French, and one of the foremost figures of the Theater of the Absurd. Beyond ridiculing the most banal situations, Ionesco’s plays depict in a tangible way the isolation and insignificance of human existence.
