“Cat and Fish” wins special jury prize at Dubai festival

TEHRAN,Dec.15(MNA) – Iranian director Shahram Mokri’s acclaimed psychodrama “Cat and Fish” has won the special jury prize at the 10th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF). The film won the award at the Muhr AsiaAfrica Feature section of the event, which came to an end on Saturday. “Cat and Fish” tells the story of a group of students, who travel to a remote region to participate in a kite-flying event. Next to their camp by the lakeside, they find a restaurant with cooks that treat the students with suspicion. Bizarre events lead to a complicated situation, from which the students cannot escape. The movie has received accolades at several international events. It won the best film award at the 13th Lisbon and Estoril Film Festival in Portugal on November 18. The 70th Venice International Film Festival honored the film with the Special Orizzonti Award for Innovative Content in September. “Ilo Ilo” directed by Anthony Chen from Hong Kong won the Best Film Award of the Muhr AsiaAfrica Feature section at the DIFF. In addition, the Chinese filmmaker Tsai Ming Liang received the award for Best Director for his movie “Stray Dogs”. Irrfan Khan was honored with the Best Actor Award for his role in “The Lunch Box” from India and the Best Actress Award went to Yeo Yann Yann for her role in “Ilo Ilo”.
