“Kara zhorga” Kazakh folk dance

Astana, March 24, 2010 (Khabar) - Kazakh people performed the “Kara zhorga” dance on Nauryz on squares in villages and cities. This dance is becoming increasingly popular and it is performed by both children and adults. “Kara zhorga” is a “Black ambler”. Dynamic and simple movements resemble graceful pace of a racehorse and shaman dance.

Yerbol Irgebai, principal, School 40, Astana:
- We prepared the “Kara zhorga” dance within choreography classes. This element of Kazakh culture was forgotten and it had been performed very rarely up to this day.

The entire country was exposed to this dance on the holiday. Journalist and writer Zholdasbek Duanbay advanced his initiative to perform “Kara zhorga” across the entire country on Nauryz.

Bekbolat Tleukhan, member of Kazakhstan Majilis:
- I want to encourage young people turn to their national culture and dance “Kara zhorga” instead of dancing Boogie Woogie and Lambada.

Myrzatai Zholdasbekov, director, Kazakhstan’s Presidential Centre of Culture:
- I accepted this offer with pleasure. And our entire team has prepared to perform this dance act literally in 15 or 20 days. Dancing is good for your health and it unites people. So, we will all do it and make you dance as well.

“Kara zhorga” fans believe that this unique dance may become a trademark of the Asian Winter Games 2011.
