“Richard II” to go on stage in Tehran

TEHRAN,Sept.22(MNA) -- Shakespeare’s tragic play “Richard II” will go on stage at the Av Hall in November. The play will be performed by the Ulysses Theater Troupe, which is led by director Mehdi Kushki. “Richard II” was written in approximately 1595. It is based on the life of King Richard II of England. Richard II was king of England from 1377 until he was deposed in 1399. Richard, a son of Edward, the Black Prince, was born during the reign of his grandfather, Edward III. Shakespeare’s primary source for “Richard II”, as for most of his chronicle histories, was Raphael Holinshed’s Chronicles. The publication of the second edition in 1587 provides a terminus post quem for the play.
