“Speaking from Moscow” broadcast is shut down

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A Mongolian language broadcast of the Russian Government’s international radio has been shut down. The announcement came about amid the last airing of the “Speaking from Moscow” on December 31. The anchorperson expressed regret on separating from their listeners after so many broadcasts since March 1946, noting that the radio broadcasts have been regarded as a bridge to friendly relations of the peoples of two countries. Voice of Russia is the Russian government's international radio broadcasting service. Its predecessor Radio Moscow was the official international broadcasting station of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. On 9 December 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a presidential decree liquidating Voice of Russia as an agency and merging it with RIA Novosti to form the Rossia Segodnya (Russia Today) international news agency. Until 2013, the Voice of Russia used to broadcast in 38 languages.
