10th Katara Traditional Dhow Festival to Begin on December 1

Doha, November 23 (QNA) - The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) announced that the 10th edition of Katara Traditional Dhow Festival will begin on December 1, 2020, and continue until December 5, with the participation of the host Qatar along with the State of Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Iraq, and Zanzibar. The festival features a program of competitions and traditional marine performances, and cultural activities and events that reflect the heritage of Qatar's ancestors and shed light on their ancient and close relationship with the sea, in order to revive and preserve Qatar's centuries-old maritime heritage. Katara explained that the festival's activities include exhibitions of the maritime heritage collections of the participating countries, special pavilions for traditional handicrafts, and workshops for making ships and ancient maritime crafts, as well as the heritage marine competitions that will be held on Katara Beach throughout the days of the festival, including (Shoush, Haddaq, and Tafrees). The 10th edition of the festival will also see the participation of the Omani folk troupe that will perform its artistic performances during the morning and evening periods throughout the festival. Director-General of Katara Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said in a statement that 10th Katara Traditional Dhow Festival will be held this year amid continuing measures and precautionary measures to confront Coronavirus (Covid-19) that Qatar took to protect all members of society, noting that the festival is receiving wide attention from researchers and those interested in the region and the world due to its heritage aspects that reflect customs and traditions and the strong connection with sea life and embody communication with the past, including its noble values and ancient traditions that extend to the present.
