13 million methamphetamine pills seizure

LAMPANG, June 11 (TNA) -- Narcotics Suppression Bureau successfully seized a major lot of illicit drug including 3 million methamphetamine pills which was hidden in a trailer delivering furniture and filing cabinets. Deputy national police chief Chalermkiat Srivorakhan, in a press conference on Sunday, said that the police had arrested a 47 year old Surasak Phanthupan, a Chiang Rai native along with a consignment of 13 million meth pills at the Mae Prik checkpoint in Phra Baht Wang Duang sub-district in Lampang province. The 12 wheeled white coloured trailer with Chiang Rai registration plates belonging to a private transport company in Chiang Rai was stopped and an initial inspection showed in contained sofas and furnitures. It apparently was travelling from a commercial building close to the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge in Chiang Khong district which is a popular location for narcotics traffickers into Thailand. Authorities asked for the vehicle to be x-rayed which led to the discovery of the amount of meth pills concealed in more than 30 filing cabinets. When questioned Mr Surasak said that he had no knowledge of the narcotics, claiming that he was hired to drive the truck and make the delivery to a customer in Bang Pa Han district in Ayutthaya province. Investigators later discovered that the consignment was well managed with two GPS tracking devices attached to the cabinets to keep track of the delivery. (TNA)
