15 injured in fair ride collapse

SAMUT PRAKAN, Nov 21 (TNA) - The operator of the Octopus ride faces charges of recklessness causing injuries after a fun ride malfunctioned and two cars collapsed, causing injuries to 15 people. The accident occurred Sunday at the annual Phra Samut Chedi fair in front of the provincial hall in Samut Prakan when two cars attached to a tentacle of the rotary Octopus ride, known as Tagada fell to ground during the ride. All of the 15 injured were taken to Samut Prakan Hospital. Fourteen people have been already released from hospital but only one, suspected of having broken neck bone remains hospitalized for thorough checkup. Prime Minister's Office Minister Ormsin Chivapruck inspected the scene. He said that under the law, the operator of the Octopus ride does not need to seek permission for the installation of the machine from the authority if the period of the installation is less than 15 days. However, she needs to notify local authorities. In this case, the operator did not inform officials as required. (TNA)
