18th AICHR Meeting Begins In Jakarta Wednesday

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- The 18th meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) will be held for four days starting Wednesday at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia. In a statement Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said it would be the third meeting in the series of AICHR's meetings under Malaysia's chairmanship of AICHR in 2015. "The meeting will continue its deliberations on a number of agenda, including the Annual Report of AICHR 2015," it said. Also on the agenda are discussions on AICHR 2016 Priority Programme, Five-Year Work Plan of AICHR (2016-2020) as well as a number of thematic studies. Malaysia's representative to AICHR and AICHR chair Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah will chair the meeting. According to the statement, the meeting would also serve as a preparation for the submission of AICHR documents to ASEAN foreign ministers during the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting/ Post Ministerial Conference (AMM/PMC) to be held from Aug 1 to 6, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur. --BERNAMA
