1st Int'l Confab On Orumiyeh Lake Opens In Northwest Iran

Orumiyeh, West Azarbaijan, Dec 8, IRNA – The first international conference on Orumiyeh Lake opened Saturday in this northwestern Iranian city in the presence of First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi. The conference is aimed at reviewing ways to revive this salt lake and improve its situation through technical and scientific solutions. Foreign figures from various world countries- Belgium, Russia, Finland, US, Turkey and Ukraine- are to study the objectives of the conference. The Orumiyeh Lake has been drying in recent years due to lack of rain, rise in temperature, dam construction and agricultural developments in the region./end
