20 Billion Baht Generated Over Songkran

BANGKOK, April 17 (TNA) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reports that Songkran 2018 attracted more than 3.5 million tourists which contributed to more than 20 billion Baht in cashflows. TAT governor Yuttasak Suphasorn told the media today that this year's Songkran celebrations was especially boisterous and vigorous for both popular and secondary tourist destinations in particular for 5 main secondary provinces targeted for promotion. These include Kamphaeng Petch, Kalasin, Singhburi, Chanthaburi and Nakhon Si Thamarat which were promoted under the 'Wear Traditional Thai to Secondary Destinations' campaign. In all 3.5 million tourists - 3 million locals and 500,000 foreign tourists; participated in Songkran festivities all over the country. More than 20 billion Baht in revenues were generated which is a significant 18% increase over last year's Songkran. To take advantage of this the TAT plans to launch campaigns to promote cultural venues showcasing Thailand's rich and diverse historic culture. This correlates with the Ministry of Tourism and Sport's initiative to drive tourism expansion to every part of the country. (TNA)
