214 Provinces, Districts To Hold Elections In 2015

Palembang, South Sumatra, Sept 1 (Antara) - About 214 provinces and districts in Indonesia are scheduled to hold local elections in 2015, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi noted here on Monday. "Hopefully, the elections will run smoothly, and that the provinces and districts will be led by capable leaders," Gamawan remarked. With regard to the suggestion of concurrently holding elections in all provinces and districts in Indonesia, Gamawan stated that it is still being discussed with the related authorities. Earlier, Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Husni Kamil Manik revealed that the commission is considering the proposal to simultaneously organize the local elections in October 2015. The government is currently drafting a new regulation on the election of regional heads. "We have been making preparations for the implementation of the regional elections, while at the same time, we are waiting for a new regulation to be approved," he added. The implementation of the local elections will be financed by funds from the state budget.
