238 kilos of crystal meth seized

NONGKHAI, Oct 22 (TNA) - Thai authorities have seized 238 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘ice’, smuggled into Thailand across the Mekong River to Nong Khai province. Officials from the Mekhong Riverine Unit in Nongkhai said the seized ‘ice’ was valued more than 230 million baht. Acting upon a tip-off, combined Thai officials found the illegal drug in six fertilizer bags in a long-tailed boat at a pier after it crossed the river, carrying four men. The smugglers managed to escape when they saw officials. Nong Khai governor said drug traffickers have lately switched from smuggling narcotics into Thailand from the North to the Northeast, therefore, responsible officials as well as the people must stay alert to prevent drug smuggling.
