32 Landslide Affected Families Resettled In Low Cost Apartment

Semarang, C Java, Jan 30 (Antara) - Thirty two families that were displaced by last Thursday`s landslide in Semarang were resettled in a low-cost apartment in the capital of Central Java province on Thursday. The families, along with their belongings were transported to the apartment by dozens of trucks owned by the Indonesian military (TNI) and the Semarang city government. Commander of the Diponegoro Regional Military Command IV Maj. Gen. Sunindyo and Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi saw the landslide victims off. Sunindyo appealed to the displaced families to remain resolute in facing the tragedy that has affected them. "As I have pledged, we will help resettle the landslide affected residents," he promised. The resettlement of the landslide victims was a prompt decision to avoid casualties, he stated, referring to the landslide in Central Java`s Kudus district which had claimed 13 lives. A landslide triggered by torrential rains displaced 32 families from the Tangkil Baru residential complex in Sukorejo subdistrict, Gunungpati district, Semarang, last Thursday. A number of houses were severely damaged but no casualties were reported. In the landslide impacted areas, most of the damaged houses and electric poles remained tilted due to the moving soil. The damaged houses have been reported to be shattered or with broken walls, and are not suitable for living in anymore.
