365 Kg Opium Seized In Isfahan Province

Isfahan, Sept 23, IRNA – Two narcotic drug bands have been demolished and more than 364 kilograms of opium has been seized from them by the provincial police forces, the Police chief of Isfahan province said Sunday evening. According to the IRI Police (IRIP) website, General Abdolreza Aqajani announcing the news added, The officers of Na’ein township managed to identify the members of two drug bands and arrest them within 24 hours while patrolling at Martyr Sherafat passage and controlling the passing vehicles in two different operations. These drug bands were transferring their drugs under the disguise of passengers in buses and 345 kilograms and 140 grams of opium was seized from them in these two operations, he said. He reiterated that in these operations also two passenger buses were confiscated and seven members of the two bands who were on their way to Tehran were arrested and handed over to the provincial judiciary officials. The Isfahan province police commander also informed the police website about the seizing 11 kilograms and 620 grams of opium by the police officers of Khour and Biabanak in the east side of Isfahan province. A passenger car was confiscated in that operation and a drug dealer was arrested, he added. Iran lies on a transit corridor between opium-producing Afghanistan and drug dealers and abusers in Europe. To counter drug trafficking, the Iranian government has deployed thousands of security personnel along its eastern borders and has erected over 1,000 kilometers of embankments, canals, trenches, and cement walls. Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, nearly 4,000 Iranian security personnel have lost their lives in the country’s relentless anti-drug campaign./end
